Getting to the Climb -TX3 Woman Approach shoe
/Out here in the Pacific Northwest, we are no stranger to wet trails. Whether it’s crossing snow fields on the way to early season rock, jumping streams from summer run-off, or heading uphill in a downpour, we need shoes that can handle it all!
I’ve taken the TX3 GTX through its paces, and it’s designed for the PNW! It has a fairly stiff last which means it climbs well on technical terrain – I’ve felt really secure on lower fifth class approaches. The sticky rubber makes it easy to rock jump, even on rain covered rocks and logs. They have also stayed waterproof even while walking through slushy snow.
These shoes are low volume, and they hit below my ankle bone. This doesn’t allow much protection when walking through snow, but it’s also easy to throw on gaiters. I like the single pull lace system – borrowed from Mythos climbing shoe, although the loop in the back could be more substantial.
Approach shoes are the all-terrain athlete’s secret weapon and the TX3 shoe - especially in the waterproof GTX model – is a tool fit for purpose for the pacific northwest.
