People call me the Ice Queen, but the nickname is only 50% due to my personality. The other half is because I am pretty much always cold. When others say 'sending temps' on a sunny January day in Washington, I'm the one who's still got hand warmers in my chalk bag dreaming of summer. It also doesn't help that my favorite place to climb, Equinox, is in the bowels of a natural cave where the ambient temperature is about ten degrees colder than what the forecast claims. It's a place that stays dry in the rain, so I often find myself there in temperatures that make me question my own existence at the pain when the blood comes rushing back to my numb fingers after a pitch. By nature climbing often requires a degree of masochism to succeed, but trying not to be the Ice Queen is a battle I've long since grown tired of fighting. Regardless of where I am, it's almost a guarantee that I'll be shivering between climbs it isn't between the months of June through September, but ever since I started wearing Darn Tough socks the one thing that doesn't get cold anymore is my feet. I've always been limited in what kinds of socks I could wear because the wool on just about everything I've tried before (and believe me, I've tried a lot) is insufferably itchy. Darn Tough is different though, they are soft where others chafed, they keep me warm where others let in the chill, and they come with me on all my trips from now on!
